Clean transport for all

Speeding up the switch to electric cars

Our goal

New AutoMotive works to speed up the switch to electric cars and cleaner road transport.

Road transport causes much of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. We want more electric cars on the road. This will help drivers cut rising fuel costs and let people in cities move and breathe more easily. We want to help people see the benefits of this change.

Who we are

New AutoMotive is an independent transport research organisation founded in 2020 with a mission to support the switch to electric vehicles.

We use data to promote the benefits of a rapid transition to electrified transport. Our data-led research helps governments, manufacturers and entrepreneurs navigate the transition to electric vehicles.

Our results: change based on evidence

We use data to drive change. Our research helps shape key policy decisions. We turn complex data into clear stories showing the real benefits of electric cars, from less CO2 to cleaner air.

Clear numbers: Our Electric Car Count (ECC) data resource is used by over 20 organisations, including UK government departments and NGOs, and has over 4,000 subscribers. It provides clear facts and analysis about the market for EVs in the UK and the Zero Emissions Vehicle mandate.

Influencing the narrative: Our “Catch-22%” briefing, which corrected myths about EV policy, was featured on the BBC News at Six in November 2024. Our Global EV Tracker presents a clear and unambiguous view of how electric vehicle technology is on the rise worldwide, driven by forward-thinking governments who see the social and economic benefit of getting this technology into the hands of motorists.

Shaping policy: We played a key role in supporting and shaping the development of the UK’s Zero Emissions Vehicle mandate, using data to rebut arguments against it. We are regularly asked to present at industry conferences and to government departments about the operation and effectiveness of this policy.

Our vision

More electric cars on the road means more drivers free from ever-rising fuel costs. It means cities where people can move and people can breathe. Electric cars are key to managing climate risk. But the transition to electric vehicles is not happening fast enough. We exist to find ways to speed it up the world over.

Strategic Partners

To amplify our impact and influence, New AutoMotive collaborates with organisations and initiatives across the globe.

We are supported by a dynamic network of strategic allies who are aligned with our vision of achieving zero-emission road transportation. Together we work on shaping guidelines, driving development and spearheading impactful projects.

The following organisations help facilitate our work:

Our work also involves collaborating with partner organisations to heighten awareness of our mission and achieve shared goals.

These include:

Where do you get your funding?

We mainly receive funding from foundations with an interest in climate change.

As a Community Interest Company we can engage in more traditional forms of commercial activity and will do this where we think this is helpful for the transition. For example, we may receive referral fees where we direct someone to a supplier of Electric Vehicles as this both helps someone make the shift and provides income we can use to promote EV use more broadly. In all cases, income received is converted back into activities supporting our core mission rather than being converted into profits for shareholders.

Our approach

We believe the way to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles is to take a decisions based on evidence and which considers the needs of consumers.

Data DNA

Our data-led research helps governments, manufacturers and entrepreneurs make the best policies and options available to consumers.

Consumer centric

The speed of the transition depends on the decisions consumers make every day, in car showrooms and online on car dealership websites. For this reason, understanding the needs of people trying to get from A to B is vital. We operate several consumer products in the UK to complement our research into the global transition to electric vehicles.

Influencing Policy

Our data is used by policymakers to create evidence-based ambitious policies that drive forward the transition to clean, electrified transport.
