Where is EV ownership growing fastest? (Hint: It’s not Islington)

To hear some parts of the media talk, EVs are solely the preserve of the tofu eating wokerati. Judging by the latest vehicle licensing statistics published earlier this week, either the wokerati have made a great exodus from their metropolitan hideouts or interest has spread to the quorn and edamame set too.

The following local authority areas saw the fastest percentage rise in privately-registered BEVs in Q1 of 2024 (we focus on private registrations because company-kept vehicles are registered at the company’s address, not where they are used).

With the exception of the Scilly Isles, which also has the distinction of being the only local authority without public charge points (in its defence, it’s only 6 square miles), it’s noteworthy that each of these local authorities already has a significant number of EVs on the road.

And these are the results from Q1, when in the latest show of party unity and coherent policy making, Government had needed opposition votes to pass its Zero Emissions Vehicle mandate. Just think what is achievable at present. Maybe our country’s best days are ahead.
