Australia has trailed behind many countries electrifying as it had successive governments'sceptive of the technology. Despite some more positive reactions to EVs, this has failed to correspond with a huge growth in market share.
Incentives are generally offered state wide, meaning there is an EV lottery depending on where a motorist lives. However, one major policy oversight was the fact Australia was the only OECD country not to have a CO2 regulations guiding its vehicle car parc. This was introduced in 2025 and aligns it with USA standards. Although a step in the right direction more supportive policies specifically for EVs will be needed to see the market grow.
