Spain’s transition to EVs has yet to take off in the way it has for its near neighbours and with its significant auto-manufacturing industry focused on diesel models, time is of the essence to electrify both the sales and manufacturing in the country. 

The government has updated its offer to motorists in order to try to improve EV market share. A grant with an added bonus for scrapping older vehicles and converting reduced mobility drivers and the rural self-employed. However, chargepoint rollout still leaves numerous areas with little coverage which is largely blamed for the slow start to the transition it has faced.

Spain needs to address these teething problems, and secure investment into the battery supply chain - crucial to its vehicle manufacturing future.
