300,000 Jobs by 2030: How Europe's Battery Boom is Powering the Future
Europe’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution isn’t just about cleaner air – it’s also about creating jobs. A lot of them.
At New AutoMotive, we’ve launched a powerful new tool to track the growth of Europe’s battery supply chain, and the numbers are eye-opening. According to our data, the battery industry already supports over 62,000 jobs – and it could support between 200,000 and 312,000 by the end of the decade. That’s up to a quarter of a million new jobs on the way, driven by Europe’s transition to clean transport.
Mapping Opportunity: Our Interactive Battery Supply Chain Tracker
To bring this growth to life, we’ve created the European Battery Supply Chain Tracker – an interactive map that tracks gigafactories, mining operations, refining projects, battery recycling plants and more. It’s the first tool of its kind to visualise where and how the battery industry is expanding across the continent.
Whether you're in government, business, or the media, the tracker makes it easy to see where jobs are being created – and where support is still needed to accelerate growth.
The Numbers Behind the Map
So far, we’ve recorded:
30,600 jobs in gigafactories
62,000 jobs across the wider battery supply chain
37 industrial projects included (and counting)
And this is just the start. With continued investment and the right policies, we project that battery-related jobs in Europe could grow to between 202,800 and 312,000 by 2030.That means real jobs, at real sites, with real potential.
Policy Will Decide the Pace
But here’s the catch: none of this is guaranteed.
The battery industry depends on strong, stable support for electric vehicles. If policymakers weaken EV targets or delay the phase-out of petrol and diesel cars, the entire supply chain could lose momentum. That would put thousands of jobs at risk – especially in countries banking on battery investment to drive regional growth.
Hundreds of thousands of jobs are still to play for, and Europe needs to level up its political support and use tools like this map to guide decision-making.
A Tool for the Transition
From local mayors to national policymakers, from journalists to industrial strategists – our tracker is built for everyone who wants to understand and shape the EV transition.
